As an Elder Law attorney, my practice concentrates on legal planning designed to meet the lifetime needs of older persons, disabled persons, their caregivers, and their families. Once those lifetime needs are met, I also create an estate plan for disposition of assets after death. An Elder Law estate plan differs from a traditional estate plan in its orientation to lifetime needs. Management of assets in the event of disability, protection of life savings, long-term care planning, dealing with incapacity, access to health care and public benefits, and planning for distribution of assets upon death are major concerns of older persons and their families. An Elder Law practice involves planning for not only those matters but also includes the issue of health care planning, retirement questions, and other special legal matters associated with aging.
